I've just spotted a new nest, there's a pair of house sparrows setting up home under a roof tile. Isn't it a bit late for them to be starting now?

No Phil,
Sparrows have 3 or 4 broods a year, Mine are on their second brood in one of my camera boxes, Breeding season doesn't end until August for them. So pretty normal.

Oh, this was a surprise. I'd noticed a blackbird flying around near the nest box quite regularly, but never seen where it went. I had a hunch that it might be going into a hedge right beside the box, and I thought I'd take a quick peek:
