Very near to our blue tit box, accidently disturbed a female blackbird.. we knew there was an empty old nest from last year but she has built another right next to the old one.

Grabbed the photo whilst she was in the hedge watching me.. now she is back sitting tight!

We do not have magpies here, oddly enough because we are surrounded by farmland. We are lucky if we see one in any one year. Hence it is actually a treat to see them!

The main problem here are sparrowhawks, crows, and jackdaws. All wonderful birds, of course, but they can cause havoc with the garden birds.

Well.. the magpie who visited this morning and was after our ducklings seems not to have noticed the blackbird nest, thank goodness.

First magpie we have seen since last year, when we saw one in the nextdoor garden. We have double netted over the duckling compound now.

In the meantime...the blackbird nest..

Saw Mrs B go in, grabbed a snap and then waited for her to fly out again...

.. and then stuck the camera in.. did not know what the pic. would show as I cannot see into the nest and I do not want to cause any upset.. very happy to see what is in there!

Yes never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow, hence the need for constant protein by way of worms, grubs etc.
