Well guys, I'm very pleased to report that this new box appears to be a hit.

I've had several visits to the front of the box from a great tit and also a blue tit.... mostly the blue tit then who continued to visit about 7 times over the course of the day. All hole entrance visits, and poking their heads in...nothing went inside yet.

I wonder are they just being nosy though??? Its the main thoroughfare on their way to the feeders, so are they just stopping for a look. ( I have now moved the feeders to a new location) Or are they making sure there is no one in there that they'll have to fight off as this new box is in their territory and their own nests are nearby???

Wednesday 25th April - edited to add:
It went completely quiet then as Sunday afternoon approached. It was extremely hot with the heatwave we were having that day. No more visits from 2pm onwards. And that was it!!! Rolling Eyes

Other than a one or two sporadic landings, that was where the interest ended. Its gone cold and wet again now.

Finally, here is a picture of my live food feeder, which I made thanks to WildlifePauls clever idea...thank you Paul.

I used a small ceramic bowl as it's heavy, so won't tip over and fits the cage perfectly. I will try to find something more suitable with holes if its necessary ( in case it fills up with rain ) But so far so good though.

I'm looking forward to watching the activity over the next few days until May begins to see what happens, if anything - I am being realistic though, and know that it is far too late in the season at this stage ....either way, I am feeling very positive for next year now... Roll on 2019 Day dreaming

GBH Don't forget the worms can get through holes!

They need to be wide enough to overcome the surface tension and let the water out, but small enough the stop the worms getting through. Razz Think Whistle I don't know

Feeder is looking good GBH,
You won't need holes in the dish, Feeders roof keeps the rain out well.
You might want to use a deep dish though, Sparrows will manage to squeeze the heads into the squares above the dish and grab them otherwise,
If you don't want to use a deeper dish just put cable ties around the squares that are on level with the dish like I did.

Never to late to have a first nesting attempt fail and they could turn to your nestbox. I think that’s what’s happened me today. A pair of BT’s in and out all day for the first time on 3rd May! The male looks familiar to me, as the nest attempt a few doors down has gone quiet.
Never give up. Wink

Hi all...

So sorry....I didn't get (or missed) an email update for these posts and as I don't bother looking at my own thread, I didn't realise they were there!!!! Sorry for ignoring you!!!

I was only popping in today to say that I had been watching Elizabeth & Malcolms box 2 developments, which was astonishing to see....and that yesterday, I too got a visit to my new cedar box by a bluetit. Just on the outside, but alot of looking around and peeking into the box....no bird has actually entered that box yet!

But so late in the season...? What else could they be visiting for??? What would the interest be?

Now I see your message there Bluetitkeeper.....that's brilliant!

Could I still be in "in the game"????

I simply will not hold my breath. Rolling Eyes But I would be so joyful if it did happen. Fingers crossed for all of us still hanging in there. Fingers crossed

Oh GBH I do feel for you I know how disappointing it is when you get overlooked. However, there is still time for a late nest so don't despair you are getting interest. Shame that you have gone to a lot of effort for them and they won't co-operate!
Will keep an eye out for any news on here. Fingers crossed Fingers crossed
