I was so pleased to see this turtle dove, we haven't had any here for three years.

Wow - What a beautiful bird, I haven't seen one before.

I have a pair of collard doves feeding in the garden but I would love to have a Turtle Dove visit.

It says in my bird book it is a summer resident only and winters in tropical Africa.

I think your extrememly lucky to have photographed one.

Thank you both : ) It was a real treat to see and stayed for three days. I'm not sure how common they are. Does anyone know?

According to the BTO, they're RED listed in the UK. http://blx1.bto.org/birdfacts/results/bob6870.htm

That's a surprise, maybe I should have sent it to bird recorders somewhere.I reported a barnacle goose and it wasn't accepted by our local birding site, even though I had pics, yet the same bird was logged by them a few weeks later by a member of the website (I am not). I always try to take some photos with evidence that they were here, I have some of the dove by the gate and near our shipping container, plenty of scattered mixed corn attracts the collared doves and pigeons (I like pigeons Smile ) Three years ago we had three of them for most of the summer. Thank you strixaluco.

The turtle dove is still here and has been joined by another. They are getting quite used to us now and even feed from the bird table. I haven't got a photo of them together yet though.
