For the first time this year I noticed the calling card (poo) from a visiting hedgehog. Last year as dusk approached he would come out and take an amble around our garden. We think he must live under next doors wooden decking. My house is in a cul-de-sac set well back from the main road, but last December I saw a hedgehog walking out into the road. I grabbed a towel and ran as fast as I could as I wanted to save him from the wheels of the passing cars, but another lady who was walking by took off her scarf and run into the road, stopped the traffic and grabbed him up saving him from a certain death. She said she would feed him then let him loose in her garden where hopefully he hibernate for the winter.
I hope my night time caller is the same Mr or Mrs Hedgehog and he survived the winter.

I have 2 hedgehogs at home and I love taking care of them. I have a customized area for them to live on so that it would emulate living in the wild and allow them to dig down as they eventually surface anyway. I did not catch them in the wild though got it from a friend who actually took care of them for breeding. It really is such a pain to see some of these animals get hurt while crossing path, really.
