We don't have a section for weather comments - this is slightly more appropriate than the others.

We have a wireless rain gauge, with a monitor in the dining room, so we were able to see how much there had been - only 4mm. Sad This is the first we've had since April 5th, and that was only 1mm.

We had a bit more rain late at night, then it rained early this morning - the grand total is now 15mm. We're pleased to see that our 6 water butts are almost full now.

The rain certainly brought out the slugs here! Over night we were monitoring the cage where we put the hedgehog food, and as the rain was coming down lots of quite small slugs were making their way across the lawn into the cage. I discovered this when I replayed the photos the next morning - I'm not sure if they would showup in a still photo, but I'll have a look later.

Beer is doing the trick with the slugs........ they are popping off like ninepins in their favourite drink !!! Except now there is more heavy rain ... which will dilute the beer ... one cannot win !!! Much needed rain ... especially for the rivers and salmon ... being trapped in pools does them no good. Have moved my petunias ...to overhanging roof shelter. Hope the moths are sheltering there too !! Smile

Back to Winter... Sad ...perishing Cold and Wild Squalls for days ....... even colder yesterday and today ... made fatballs with suet/cookeen ....... adding seedmix, sunflowerseeds, oatmeal, and soft cooked Poultry Mix.. and niger seed..etc .... poured into empty apple tart and dog food containers to set ... popped in fridge till solid.... then hung outside in sheltered spots . Had to make them as running out of fat balls which families of Siskins have been devouring since they appeared a few days ago.... at least 3 families ... 20 odd Siskins ....... and of course the Sparrows have joined in .... and the usual greenfinch chaffinch ..2 Goldfinch... blue and great tits ..... this is in addition to hanging feeders with sunflower and seed mix... also niger... and peanuts .... and Poultry mix on ground for the Collared Doves.... doo wish this COLD BLAST would subside .... its only 3 weeks to midsummers day !!!!!!!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Confused Turtle Depressed Roll on Sunshine !!!!!!!!!!!
