Is there anyway in the album that you can view the last posts (i.e. comments), or view posts since last visiting the album? At present (unless I'm missing something), you know who made the last comment, but not the picture to which is relates.

Any ideas?

I do not believe there is and what I rely on is the Recent Public Pics display to see if there are new pictures since I last looked. Unfortunately it is not a simple change to add this functionality although it is already on my list of features I would like to see.
