I don't know whether you heard about it in the media, but the Bubmlebee Conservation Trust is doing a National survey. They want to map the locations of all types of bumblebees.

http://www.bumblebeeconservationtrust.co.uk/

They would like you to take photos of any bumblebees you see- in your garden or anywhere in fact- parks, gardens, countryside etc, but send in postcode and or grid ref for each, and when photo was taken and any other relevant info.

Send the photos to enquiries@bumblebeeconservationtrust.co.uk

You can also join the Trust or for free sign up for an email newsletter.
They have already told me that I have a "rather rare" gypsy cuckoo bumblebee.

They are also interested in reports of bumblebees using bumblebee nest boxes, home made boxes eg plantpot ones, roosting pockets and bird boxes. It helps if you can identify which sort of bees or send in a photo.

Please read their website and join in.

ps I have found it is incredibly difficult chasing a bee with a camera on macro mode! I'm toying with the idea of using a fising net and a clear container.
