Martin-Mere right through the winter superb for Raptors -Geese-Swans-Waders. Also Mere-sands-woods just 10 mins from the Mere. RSPB marshside southport, 20 mins from either place and all good family days out.

Hi Martin Mere is often wall to wall with Birders and visitors of a weekend, but if you can go during the week it is fairly quiet and much better for birding.
As for Mere Sands I am a regular visitor, but though there are a lot of hides and woodland walks we often struggle to see very much, probably all at Matin Mere after the free food on issue there. Albeit it home to a rare Orchid so that makes it special for us.

Hi Guys wasnt trying to imply there werent birds at Mere Sands just not as prolific as at Martin Mere, I like Mere Sands, and especially the ponds in front of the Centre excellent for Dragon Flies, etc plus lots of birds on the feeders there, also always enjoy the displays in the centre, some excellent Art on show from time to time.
