On the way out yesterday I saw a green woodpecker being chased across the road by a magpie.

Lucky you - we get them in the garden sometimes (we think they are looking for ants in the lawn) but we haven't seen one here for quite a while.

Lucky indeed! In Finland the species has been observed about five times. We have grey-headed woodpecker here instead, but that's not too common either. Last year one was three kilometres away from my place. The only green woodpecker I have seen was in Switzerland.

Hi Alex

I think you are very lucky to see a Green Woodpecker. They are very difficult to see where I live, and it took me ages to see my first one.

Have you got a favourite bird? Mine is a Robin.

Hello Alex, we have two golden retrievers and take them for a walk in our local country park everyday. I think we must be very lucky as we often see a green woodpecker. They are really beautiful birds aren't they and they blend in so well with the bark on the trees. Diana May Smile
