Resident in Britain&Ireland, with immigrants from N&E continent. Late sept-April/May. Keep looking. Ok i'll add a size, 13-15cm, thats all folks otherwise its too easy.

Thanks Paul that was a really hard one I had all the bird books out racking my brains for that one!!! Right this bird's alternative name is tree falcon and tends to prefer southern England and Wales. Likes heathland, open country and the margins of freshwater. You've probably got it already but thats it. Happy thinking ... PM answers by sunday 7.00ish.

Sorry for the delay the web was down last night, right here goes this bird is 33-39cm in length & a wing span 80-95cm it is becoming rarer due to it's habitat becoming less & less this bird is nocturnal, that's all I am giving for now Answers in by 8:00pm Wed 31.01.07

From the heights to the depths this bird's name suggests it might be less selective than it might be in reality.

this bird's name suggests it might be less selective than it might be in reality...... some people will eat absolutely anything......

Two correct answers so far and the suggestion of a further clue being needed,
