Two days ago an adult Great Tit got their head stuck in one of our feeders. It was nearly empty and he/she was reaching for the last dregs.

Fortunately, we spotted the bird, and managed to take the feeder apart and free it. We noticed that it was ringed and it was my intention once we had freed it to check the ring details and find out more about the bird.

But, as grateful as it was, it didn't hang about.

Does anybody know why this bird would have been ringed?

Also, for future reference is there somewhere we can find about any ringed birds we happen to come across. I know the Pigeon Racing Federation were helpful when we had a homer in our garden. Just wondered about wild birds and where we would report/find out more.
