Hi, Not sure if I should have used the 25mm or 28mm hole protector for the Blue Tit box, which size is most popular with them? _________________ Jo |

Hi Jo - this is what the RSPPB suggests:
•25 mm for blue, coal and marsh tits
•28 mm for great tits, tree sparrows and pied flycatchers
•32 mm for house sparrows and nuthatches
•45 mm for starlings
However - we use 28mm for bluetits and 32mm for great tits (we've never seen a great tit managing to get into a box with a 28m hole)! _________________ Elizabeth |

Thanks for that I did read that but its helpful to find out what works best from your experience.
Perhaps our Blue Tits are getting bigger now, with all this good food we feed them! _________________ Jo |

Would BT’s use a 32mm box with no 25/28mm plate or would the hole be to big for them? Would they feel to uncomfortable with a large hole and not use it or would it be okay? Although, it would open up the box to be taken over by GT’s and Sparrows. _________________ 2018:
