Hi thought I would introduce myself my name is Kevin and I live in the market town of Bishop Auckland which is ideal as I'm really close to Hamsterley Forest and the river Wear ideal places for bird watching. My passion for bird watching helps me rewind and restore my batteries after being to work. Looking forward to Bering involved in some of the discussions. Very Happy

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum. Always good to see new members. Shame it's so late in the season as you have missed most of the excitement, however still a few of us on here and two or three still with chicks to fledge so something to read.

Hi Kevin
Welcome on board. As Sue says a lot of members are off line as the nests they were watching have fledged but it's always good to share our love of birds at whatever time of year. I believe watching birds has been scientifically proven to be a benefit to mental health Very Happy Banana!

Hi Kevin
I'm Kathy welcome aboard. It's a very friendly site as you may have gathered.
I'm being cheeky plugging this but I am looking for a few photos for a calendar we are putting together and I would like more men to come on board.
You would be very welcome to submit something if you have a photo you are proud of. We are keeping to creatures in the garden for this one.
Do see my calendar thread for details!
P.S Love the area you live in one of my favourite counties. Very Happy

Loads of info here about putting your nest box up Coot

https://www.bto.org/about-birds/nnbw/putting-up-a-nest-box

And here

https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/read-and-learn/helping-birds/nestboxes/smallbirds/siting.aspx

I found the boxes on the wall of our house always do the best, This could be cause nothing can climb up to them but also we have tree's facing our house its important to have something facing so chicks can land on.

If you could put one on your house wall and one in a tree (if you have any) its best of both worlds really.

For the camera's its whatever is in your budget really, I mainly get mine from Gardenature.

Try sites like Handykam and Gardenature for your boxes and camera's it will work out cheaper to buy them as a full set probably

Links here
Handykam
http://www.handykam.com/Bird-box-nest-box-camera-systems/View-all-products.html

Gardenature
http://gardenature.co.uk/shop/watching-wildlife/bird-boxes-with-cameras

Hope this helps you, I prefer gardenature over handykam if am honest cost more money but better quality.
