Hi Frank
My theory on this for what it's worth is that due to the mild winter there are more fruiting berries, insects and seeds in the countryside therefore birds have little need for our garden provisions except for a top up!
I have noticed something similar on my patch this year, certainly fewer Goldfinches, and Blue Tits on the feeders, yet they come into the garden to look at my boxes. I am situated a few meters from countryside and are plagued by Magpies which is a worry when the chicks fledge.

Gulls I know can be quite aggressive and this may frighten the little birds away, but not much you can do about it. Wait until the winter and see what happens then.

Hope you enjoy the forum. Very Happy
Kathy

I'm not far from you, in Rowlands Gill Gateshead, so thought it was surprising I didn't know that term. Just haven't ever heard it before.

Regarding your garden, is there much cover by way of trees or bushes? The bigger birds might be more bold but the smaller birds might prefer more cover.
