Hello! Quick history: This is my first camera nestbox. Last year I put up a non-camera sparrow terrace nestbox for 3 – each of the boxes was visited by bluetits and all started building but only one completed. We saw parents going in with food so hopefully the chicks all fledged! Only 1 unhatched egg was left when I went to clean it.

Encouraged, this year I put a camera box in the same spot. There was “peck inspecting” almost immediately and on March 17th a bluetit brought in material and did the nest shuffle. However since then… no additional nest material but the bluetit visits every single day and just moves the material around and does a bit of pecking. It’s now April and she’s still visiting every day but no more material! Below picture of nest yesterday:

Should I still be hopeful and is this typical… for a bird to bring in material in but almost 4 weeks later no progress but still visiting? I just keep hoping that the lateness is due to us being so far north....

Firstly, Welcome to the forum Very Happy I know sometimes people that live in Scotland have blue tits nesting alot later.

If your bird is still visiting everyday there shouldn't be anything to worry about yet.

Welcome....

Any visits are a positive thing! Especially regular ones like yours.

Best of luck for 2017.

Yes, regular visits are a positive thing when the weather improves (it's nippy where I am) you may see a spurt of nest building. I keep saying it but its about timing it right!!
Nice to see you on the forum
