Hi all.

Just thought I'd share with you my recipe for Home made Bird Dumplings.

They're like dumplings we'd make to have with a nice warming stew but with a few added extras.

The ingredients I used to make 16-18 are

100g of plain flour
100g of beef suet
Lard
Crushed Peanuts
Sultanas
Suet Pellets
Mixed Seed
Dried Mealworms
Mild Cheese

THERE ARE NO WEIGHTS FOR THE PEANUTS ETC. USE AS LITTLE OR AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE.

Put the flour and beef suet into a bowl, add lard and mix using fingers.

Add extras (I like to vary the mixes), continue mixing into a dough (add water if too dry or flour if too wet).

Take a small handful and roll into a ball. Place onto a baking tray covered with Clingfilm

After all the mixture if used, place the tray in the fridge to set. When firm put the dumplings in a suitable container and keep in the fridge ready to use.

These treats are now more popular with the birds than the shop bought fat ball Very Happy

This is an interesting alternative to the conventional fat balls! Smile

How do you offer them to the birds - on a bird table or in a dish on the ground?

In the hanging feeders with the fat balls then put a couple on the bird table and on the ground.

The woodpeckers, tits, robins, nuthatches and starlings eat from the feeders, but might have to make them a little larger because the magpies fly in and take the loose ones whole Rolling Eyes
