Hi,

Firstly, thanks for the forum and links to the webcams. Val and I have spent hours watching Malcolm and Elizabeths cameras (really sorry to see the loss of those chicks Elizabeth).

We had an Aldi camera box in our small garden but had to remove it just before breeding season as our house sale seemed to be going through at last and we didn't want to leave the box behind or disturb potential nesters.

I hastily made another box from an old log section and put it up just in time for the blue tits to start making their nest. Unfortunately it doesn't have the camera and we are only guessing whats going on. We think that the chicks are probably a few days behind Elizabeths two female mothers broods. Bu cant be sure.

Our question is..... At what stage do the chicks become vocal in the nest? We listen close to the box and hear nothing although the parents are in and out with food all the time. Knowing when they start chirping when food is on way might help us figure out when fledging is approaching.

Thanks to all contributors.

Richard & Val

Hi Richard and Val - welcome to the Forum.

We don't have sound in our boxes, so I hope someone else will be able to answer you question. Although the Overview page on our website has information about certain stages, it doesn't include when chirping starts (which we have heard in previous years when standing under the box), or when the yes open. Crying or Very sad

Hi Val
We have sound in our box and our chicks are now 8 days old and are chirping as soon as the parent enters the box with food. This has been going on for a few days now although there eyes are not yet open but they do have some pin feathers. They are also a contented brood who are quieter when bellies are full!
Hope this is the answer you are looking for.
Best of luck with them they all need luck on their side this season!

Kathy
