We have always had plenty of both - probably 6 to 8 of each, and at least the bluetits have nested again in one of the boxes. They were very busy all during our gardening efforts - not scared off or shy. We'ver been away for a week, and now there are no tits of any sort. The nest is perfect, but I don't think they laid or raised in it. Does anyone have any ideas as to why they have all deserted us?
Many thanks

I have just posted a similar question .... am concerned at this mystery and wonder how many other people have noticed the decline / disappearance. I so hope it's not bad news for the birds and hope they having good holiday somewhere :)

My hanging peanuts are usually swarming with Blue/Great tits but after we went away for a few days about two months ago they all disappeared.
Where are they ? Still lots of Chaffs, Blackbirds, Sparrows and Robins about but no Tits. Is it because they food ran out while we were away ?

Have recently noticed a return (a bit quiet, but they ARE there) I am starting to think that maybe there has been an increase in their natural food due to the unusually warm weather. They must have nearly eaten it all now, so they're coming back to the feeders!

Many Blue and Great tits have now come back ( started this week ). Neighbours theory is the strong winds some weeks back destroyed many nests ( they have found several ) but the chaffs, robins and sparrows were still around so who knows ? Martins have been here for 2 weeks now. Fantastic to watch - they fly within 2 or 3 feet of you if you stand still.

They - great tits and blue tits are slowly coming back. Silver lining to not seeing so many for so long is that sparrows have really developed their acrobatic skills with space to practice ! Woodpeckers are back, as are nuthatches. still no sign of the long-tailed tits, marsh tits and coal tits. Appearance of a new bird here - a Jay - beautiful - today.
