Have seen 4 White tailed Bumble Bees today .... feeding on "Pussy willow blossom" ... my flowering current is late ... buds not open yet ..... constant COLD winds .... grrr....... !!!!!(The bumbles love it)
How to save a distressed Bumble Bee ........
It will be cold and hungry and wet ... floundering about amongst vegetation ... scoop it gently (with a grass stem) .. into a small clear plastic tub .... place under low powered table lamp .. or in sunny spot .... With a wee dod of honey .. placed near its head... in the plastic tub (lie the tub on its side..... just a wee dod the size of a pin head ! ) If you place it inside... leave a window open for it to fly outside .. when recovered .......
Does not take long to recover.... as soon as its dry and warm .. will lick the honey ... and not long after... will fly away fully recovered. It will NOT harm you ... I have saved 2 in this way .. last summer. Love Bumbles ....... _________________ Enthusiastic amateur bird feeder and watcher... and nature interests .... have nest boxes.... one used for 5 yrs by Starling pair. |
