Hi,

My mum was in the garden today & heard Tawny Owls hooting about 12/1pm? Does anyone know why?

I have a tawny owl nest box, which i haven't put up yet, we have lots of oak trees around to put it in, but how can we distract squirels from using it & encourage the owls to use it?

I've only just noticed your post -but I don't have any ideas on this one. I suggest you put up the box a soon as possible, and hope that the owls can cope if they decide to use it! According to my reference book about nests etc, the breeding season for tawny owls usually begins in late March, but can be nearly a month earlier at times

It is a bit late, but not necessarily too late and it certainly wouldn't harm to put it up now.

We have 2 pairs of Tawney who have already been on eggs for some time. I agree its never too late, but don't hold your breath.

Fingers crossed.
