The other morning, after I'd put out the bird food, I tipped the water out of the bird bath onto the lawn and gave it a good rinse out with the hosepipe before filling it up again. I then sat and watched as Mrs Blackbird came for her suet pellets, filling her beak with pink sprinkles before taking them away to her nest.

She soon noticed the big wet patch on the lawn, and flew down to search for worms. In the 10 minutes I was watching she found three big beakfuls, taking each away to her nest and then returning for more.

I decided to give her a helping hand every morning, watering a different patch of grass each day. I'm out at work during the week, so I can't spend all that much time watching, but she does seem to have worked out the system and is finding lots of wrigglies. It's a lot cheaper than buying mealworms for her! Very Happy

I must try this - the smaller birds are well supplied with mealworms (in three caged feeders), but I'd like to give the blackbirds a helping - claw??? Rolling Eyes
