Paxton Pits, Cambridgeshire.

Paxton Pits is open to the public all day, every day. A Visitor Centre is open most weekends, where Volunteer Wardens, leaflets, maps and refreshments are available to help you get the most from your visit.

Great seating area inside and by the centre and, Toilet facilities top grade, also ample parking.

There are facilities for the Disabled member or visitor again facilities catered for.

Most of the trails are accusable for wheelchair bird watchers, though bear in mind some terrain would be hard going unless accompanied.

Along the trails are benches spaced out for that all important rest.


Paxton Pits is five minutes from the A1 (London-Edinburgh) trunk road. The entrance to the Reserve is at grid reference TL 196 629

By car, from the south: from the Black Cat roundabout on the A1 (the junction with the A421 to Bedford), drive north for 5 miles and take the exit signposted to St Neots and Little Paxton. The Nature Reserve is signed (left) from the edge of Little Paxton village.

By car, from the north: from Buckden, drive south on the A1 for 2 miles and take the first exit (at the Little Chef), signposted St Neots and Little Paxton. The Nature Reserve is signed (left) from the edge of the village.

By car, from the east: from St Neots, follow the signs to Little Paxton. At the T-junction at the end of Mill Lane, turn right onto the Great North Road. The Nature Reserve is signed (right) after quarter of a mile.

By car, from the west: follow the B645 from Higham Ferrers to the junction with the A1, at St Neots. Follow the A1 north for 1 miles and take the exit signposted to St Neots and Little Paxton. The Nature Reserve is signed (left) from the edge of Little Paxton village.

This is a fabulous Reserve.
I managed to see and photograph so many Nightingales this year.

But I missed the Cranes Mad

Yes a good reserve but busy at weekends with dog walkers and families so if you want a quiet bird watch or go in the week,saw the Nightingales myself lovely song
