Tricia made a good suggestion today. How about having a BBF Freecycle forum. I am sharing my spare seeds with Tricia you see and if anyone has any they want to swap they could be put to good use rather than rotting in the packet. Cool

I was composing an answer to this, but was sidetracked and now you've beaten me to it! What we're suggesting is that we incorporate the idea of a BBF freecycle system into the current For Sale and Wanted section - we're just trying to think of a suitable title!

For those who haven't heard of the international organisation "Freecycle" there is info here:

http://freecycle.org/

Via guildfordfreecycle I've already found a good home for a nearly new travel kettle, and a duplicate copy of a rather nice book - as well as receiving several offers of an offcut of roofing felt for a nesting box. It's amazing to see what gets offered, and taken.

I think it should be obvious if it is headed correctly, and anyway the number of separate sections is getting rather large now.

I would also suggest we utilise the current "For Sale and Wanted" rather than add another forum since neither are likely to have that much traffic. If it turns out there is too much traffic for one we can always split later.

How about renaming it to "For Sale, Wanted or Going Free"?

Thanks for this, Elizabeth. I was actually able to find a branch of this nearest to here. Kind of surprised me! Wink

Happy Holidays!

Malcolm took the photo earlier this year at RSPB Pulborough Brooks and you're very welcome to keep it. I think my sister is using it for some of her Christmas cards.

That's one impressive photo.... focuses on the bird and not the background which makes it so much better. As a non-photographer can you tell me how do you do that Malcolm?

I have a good camera (Canon 20D) and a good long focus lens (Canon zoom EF 100-400mm) with autofocus. By focusing on the robin with this kit and at this distance, the background was automatically out of focus. He was quite close to me - only about 15 to 20 feet away from memory. I took over a dozen pictures while he was singing his heart out, quite oblivious of the group of three or four of us on the path beneath him.

Elizabeth & I were at Pulborough Brooks being taught about warblers at a session they ran there and at the time the party was looking for warblers. Everybody else apart from the small group I was in ignored the robin but I thought he was lovely - hence the pics!

Brilliant!

I've only got a Canon A20 (getting a bit old now) but if I max the optical zoom and focus via macro it works! Very Happy

Gonna try to get some pics of this huge family of house sparrows that share the peanut feeder. It's really amazing how they do it in relays and don't push each other off. When one has finished feeding his flys up to where the rest of the sparrows are and the next one flys down. Totally different to where one starling tries to push every other bird out of the feeding area.
